ABOUT

Hi, I’m Cia, photographer, creative director, artist, and founder of Cia Nelson Studio, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I photograph spaces and people with the same philosophy: both are deeply personal, layered with story, and full of quiet magic. My work focuses on interiors and lifestyle photography that feels lived-in, soulful, and true, imagery that captures not just how something looks, but how it feels to be there.

Whether I’m photographing a thoughtfully curated home, architecture, capturing someone in their natural environment, or creating original artwork, my goal is always the same: to create imagery that feels authentic and beautiful.

I got my start while working with a custom home architect in Palo Alto, where I developed a deep appreciation for architecture, design, and photography. I also spent seven years photographing homes for Airbnb, which gave me invaluable insight into how to showcase inviting, lived-in spaces with warmth and clarity. That foundation, combined with my experience as a Photo Editor for Luxe Airbnb, shaped my eye for detail and helped me hone a natural, editorial style that brings out the beauty in both spaces and people.

I spent four years at Viscera Studio as the creative operations manager and lead photographer, spearheading photography, production, branding, and communications for mission-driven clients. There, I directed branding and marketing initiatives, managed projects from concept to completion, and collaborated with cross-functional teams to build strong visual identities and campaigns.

I also currently serve on the Board of Advisors at We Are Grove Strong. As Marketing Advisor to The Grove, my mission is to help grow the reach, impact, and visibility of women working in interior and architectural photography. My goal is to help The Grove bring business growth to women photographers in this niche.

Beyond the lens, art has always been a grounding force in my life. From collecting rocks and doodling as a child to being inspired by fashion illustration, art is a common thread in my life. Today, I channel that early passion into a growing body of artwork, exploring watercolor and digital illustration as mediums for expression and storytelling. My 16-year-old cat, Monet, supervises everything I do.

Let’s create magic.
